Microblading and micropigmentation are both cosmetic procedures used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows and I offer both techniques at Cloella Beauty & Aesthetics, however they differ in several key ways:

  1. Technique:

    • Microblading: This technique involves using a manual handheld tool with fine needles to create tiny, hair-like strokes in the skin's surface. Pigment is deposited into these strokes to mimic the appearance of natural eyebrow hairs.

    • Micropigmentation: Also known as eyebrow tattooing or permanent makeup, micropigmentation uses a machine to implant pigment into the skin. It typically creates a more solid and filled-in look, resembling traditional makeup but can also be used to create a softer, powder finish, ombre style, hairstrokes or combination of hairstrokes and powder.

  1. Results:

    • Microblading: Provides a more natural and textured look that simulates individual hairs. It's suitable for those looking to enhance sparse or uneven brows.

    • Micropigmentation: Offers a bolder and more defined appearance, similar to the look of filled-in brows with makeup. It's often chosen by individuals seeking a more consistently groomed look.

  1. Longevity:

    • Microblading: Results typically last around 1-2 years, as the pigment is deposited in the superficial layers of the skin.

    • Micropigmentation: The pigment tends to be implanted deeper into the skin, leading to longer-lasting results that can endure for 2-5 years.

  1. Maintenance:

    • Microblading: Requires touch-up sessions every 12-18 months to maintain the desired look.

    • Micropigmentation: Generally needs less frequent touch-ups, but its recommended around 18 months to have a review.

Top up timings are largely based on a number of factors including skin type, health conditions, lifestyle and aftercare.

  1. Pain and Discomfort:

    • Microblading: Can be slightly more uncomfortable due to the manual tool and the creation of small incisions in the skin.

    • Micropigmentation: Often considered less painful as the machine used is gentler.

I always recommend you apply a topical anaesthetic cream that you can purchase over the counter in a chemist prior to treatment for the most comfortable experience with minimal discomfort.

  1. Suitability:

    • Microblading: Ideal for those with mild to moderate eyebrow concerns, like sparse or uneven brows.

    • Micropigmentation: Suitable for various eyebrow conditions, including filling in gaps, reshaping, or achieving a more defined look. This method can also be more suited to oily skin types.

I would highly recommend consultation with a trained and experienced professional pmu artist to determine which technique is best suited to your specific needs and preferences. Both microblading and micropigmentation have their advantages, and the choice ultimately depends on the desired outcome and individual factors. I offer a free 15 minute aesthetics consultation that you can book online.
